Essence Of America 9/11 Tribute Series
In response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, artist Cynthia Kagan created "The Essence Of America" Tribute Series to honor the heroism of the many Search and Rescue dogs, and their human handlers, who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero. Several of these brave canines perished in the line of duty during this disaster.
The Series' genesis aimed to shine a spotlight on these undaunted animals doing the jobs for which they were trained and committed. Captured amidst scenes of mangled armatures, endless rubble and devastation, they embody the unfailing bond of human and canine.
The triptych met with an overwhelming response allowing for the creation of a Heroes Fund to benefit the NYPD K-9 Unit. Monies generated from the sales of "The Essence Of America" enabled the Unit to acquire and train new canines, renovate and expand the existing facility, purchase a state-of-the-art agility course and pay for new kennels. Tens of thousands of dollars have been donated to
the Foundation to date.
The Tribute Series is a Limited Edition of which 1000 each was printed in 2001. There will be no further reproduction. (Available for purchase.)
